Khrushchev and his entourage spent five days at a palace (formerly the property of a Baron Teleki) in a village about 30 minutes by car from Arad. Khrushchev arrived in Bucharest by air, where he changed planes and flew on to the palace. The Rumanian delegation, headed by Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej, included all Politburo members. c. The Hungarian delegation included Janos Kadar, Ferencz Muennich, and Istvan Dobi. The Hungarian leaders arrived at night by car, spent the next day and night at the palace, and returned to Budapest on the following day. d. It was rumored that Wladyslaw Gomulka represented Poland.* 2. 50X1-HUM initiated the meetings in order to reach a modus vivendi with Yugoslav President Tito, who was also rumored to have attended the meetings. The attempt apparently failed, for the official statement pub- lished at the end of the talks was simply to the effect that Khrush- chew had spent five days resting and hunting.
