The Thermo-Technical Research Institute, BUDi.PEST.
This Institute, Hungarian title Hotechnikai Kutato
Intezet, is at Kende Utca 14, BUDLPEST XI. It employed
140-150 workers, of whom about 35 wore qualified engineers.
The Director is Professor KOMONDI, Zoltan, an engineer who
also holds the chair of Steam Engineering and Refrigeration at
DUDi.PEST Technical Tlnivcrsity, His deputy is BLTOR, Bel,-a.
The Institute is under the Ministry of Power and Liining.

The Institute is divided into 6 departments as under: -
(i) Domestic Heating. Head Dr. GYULI, Jozsof (Chemical
Engineer).
(ii) Boiler Heating (Industrial). Head BEER, Janos; Deputy
G1.BOR, Basses.
(iii) Heat Transport Problems. Herd 3NES, Zoltan. Concerned
mainly with domestic heating ,roblems and condensation
systems for power stations.
(iv) Gas Dynamics. Head KONCZ, Istvan. Concerned with such
problems as slag transport by air blast, ash purification
and mine ventilation.
(v) Gras and ';inter Chemistry (of boilers). Head. NLSJ1_L.rI,
Laszlo Concerned with ion cxeh.-.i1go 25X1
methods, gas extraction from coal, Ln unsuccessful projoct
was the use of CO as the reducing :.gent in blast furnaces
in lieu of coke. This was inspired by the coke shortage in
HUN G,1RY .
(vi) Measuring Instruments. Head BECZKOY (f.n.u.) Responsible
mainly for the procurement and mrintenancc of instruments
used by the other 5 departmcr_ts.
3. No restrictiyo!security measures were in force at the
Institute which carried out no work of direct defence significance.
it one time the Gas Dynamics department was working on the
development of axial compressors for g-as turbines, but as soon
as progooss looked promising the i';iinistry ordered all results
etc. to be handed over to the Chair of army Engineering at
BUDLI'ST University.
4. ';!hen it became apparent that HTU.- GLRY was adopting an i.tomic
