Conditions in the Port of 0DESSA
l . I nstnllati ons.
a) All the cranes in the Fort of ODESSA are new
IFor a ship of about 150
metres in length there are three cranes, each with a capacity of bet-
ricer. 8 to 20 tons.
b) Slowness in loading ships in 0 ESSI, is 7very r,,ark(,d.
a) T. ere is a new electric power station in the Port of ODESSA
with 5 generators (see Item 2 of Plan attached).
d) All cargoe is consigned by the Russian company LFLOT.
2. Security.
a) Security on a;;broaching ODB66A is not so strict
When leaving ODESSA ships have to keep
away from the CRIT;A, especially from :;B 'iOPOL. Instead o- following
the nor Tli course from ODESSA to 1I1 H of 345 miles they have to do a
course of 450 miles and enter K1 RCF.i from the South.

d) T -ie ,-Ulitaxy ]Port (Naval) is soparateex from the Commercial Port
and entry into the iiiilitary zone is absolutely forbidden (see Item 6 on
Plan A attached).

Shipping.
a) Local merchant shipping in the port
Only two Soviet coasters with cargoc arrive a'id there
arc no local passenger ships. There are I I3 or 24. foreign

The destroyers are modern with one funnel each and two turrets of

c) Prices. k bottle of beer costs 5 roubles; beer and sandwiches
Everything bought for a foreign ship has to be pa i 1 for in U. S. dollars.
The rate of exchange was 4 roubles to the 7ollnr.
d) Labourers in the Port receive 11 roubles for 8 hours work; for
12 hours their receive 30 rouoles, which is the r~aXimu!a ,;rage. The price
of :neat is 18 roubles a kilo, and an ordinax' pair of shoes costs
bet-.,eon. 120 and 150 roubles. There are a large nurii::)er of worn working,
