Approximately 25 chimneys, two blast furnaces, two gas storage tanks and several boilers were observed in that area. One and a half million workers are alleged to be employed in this complex. After being loaded and detached from the cranes located at the coal storage area these grabs are placed on the mall rail cars and moved to ship side. There they are lifted from the cars and their coal is dumped into the ships hold. The grab buckets are then re-mounted on the small rail cars :and returned to the coal piles. With this system of ship loading, eight tons per hold can be loaded in one minute. Horizontal, semi-enclosed belt type convey-m.5 placed In each hold distribute the coal in the holds. The grab buckets empty the coal into the hoppers of these eonveyors which are electrically driven and can rotate 3600. At the shoreward berth on Zapodni Mole 5500 tons of coal can be loaded. in 36 hours. At the adjacent berth on Zapodni Mole 3500 tons can be loaded in 12 hours into single decked Soviet coal ships. (These two berths are at position No. 1 in Figure 2-13, BIS 260 Fart D). At position No. 2 in Figure 2-13 are two berths equipped with six large cranes. Two berths equipped with a total of four cranes are located on the Coal Basin side of the wharf marked No. 3 on Figure 2413.
