1. Construction of the new asphalt road from Orasul-Stalin (formerly
3rasov) to Kiev was begun in the spring of 1950. that year the
Uzunu-rargu Sacuesc section, about 45 kilometers in length, was
completed. ConstrUction work continued until 1955.
2. The road was built using the existing secondary road from Moacsa
to Iasi as a base0 the width of the old road was increased to ten
meters and the new road constructed of three layers of stone, vary-
ing in size, covered with three layers of asphalt. On either side
of the road there is a ditch one meter wide and 60 centimeters deep.
Milestones, which are painted predominantly red, mark the_road at
intervals. At Sacau (463)4N-2654E) the road joins the main road from
2ucharest, which runs north through Roman (4655N-2654E) and Targu-
irumos (4713N-2701E).
3. A large number of people participated in building the new road, in-
cluding an army labor unit, engineer units, political prisoners,
specialized workers, and peasants from the towns in which the con-
struction was taking place.
