Aim 53: 3 1431 15s were standing at the take-off point and the other 7 in front of the hangars. 27 Aug 53: 7 20115s were standing in front of the hangars and the 50X1-HUM rennind.er were either airborne or standing at the take-off point. 4. Fl There was considerable flying activity on both days of observation. The aircraft took off singly or in pairs. While flying was in progress, a car, and 2 W/T trucks were parked at the take-off point 50X1-HUM NIG 15s were refuelled between flights. About 1800 hrs on 27 Aug 53, an unidentified 4-engined transport aircraft took off and at 1830 hrs a similar aircraft landed. 5. Radar: The "Knife-rest" on the road to STRAGUTH, which was present on 14 Aug 53, had been removed by 27 Aug 53. In its place was a new type of radar con- sisting of a flat-mesh screen approx 1.5 m square on a pole about 8 m hirk It was only possible to see the apparatus from the front as Russia- in the vicinity precluded more careful investigation. The array was noL seen to move. (See sketch at Appendix "A".) 6. WIT and flying aids: (a) There were 7 searchlights in the same location. (b) The static W/T station was unchanged. 7. AA defences.
