The uranium ore found in Poland is of a very poor quality and contains impurities. The government has therefore continued to search for new uranium fields. During the winter of 1952, while searching for new fields, the government nmened two new mranium mines; one mine is located at Wien (Loehn - 0 5T 59), near 4elenia Qom- (1/rwehtMOWL. and theHother.i?awor (4auer0 52/B 90 in the direction of Siekiersyce (Seckerwits) and inearer to this latter locality. 50X1-HUM 2. The authorities have instituted the usual security measures, such as barbed wire, sentries, warning signs, and penalties, to-deter the civilian population from -entering the swear Where the uranium mines are located. However, aside from these security measures, the authorities have erected warning signs which read: . Attention, the fields have not been cleared of war mines. 50X1-HUM the fields were never mined during the war, since no person had 5UX1-HUM been injured or killed by a land. mine in this area prior to the opening of the uranium mines.-,HUt, in order to make the mine threat real, the fields have now been mined and several fatal accidents have occured. 3, Some :Frontier UB Brigades (Jranicsne Brygady U.B. - G.B.U.B.) have been treated in the frontier area where the uranium mines are located. One such brigade has its headquarters at Klodsko and another at Jelenia Gora. However, these brigades have nothing to do with guarding the frontiers but have as their sole duty the security of the uranium. mines.
