The Council adopted the reductions in the atomic energy program proposed in Part II of NSC 149/1, with the understanding that: (1) the Atomic Energy Commission will review the possibility of further reductions as a result of the elimination of the large ship reactor program and the aircraft nuclear propulsion program pursuant to Action 768-i;(see also NSC Action No. 779); (2) the Secretary of Defense will urgently review the military requirements for atomic weapons in the light of the revisions in the military program; and (3) the Atomic Energy Commission will recommend revisions in its expansion program in the light of any changes in military requirements resulting from (2) above (NSC Action No. 768-.C).
