General Walter B. Smith Central Intelligence Agency 2430 E Street, N. W. Washington 25, D. C. My dear General= Shortly after the outbreak of the Korean situation, General Gruenther, now with General Eisenhower, informed me that I was made available to the Central Intelligenc'e~Agency for duty and some correspondence with the Agency ensued. This morning I re- ceived a letter from General Boling, in answer to my inquiry, and in the letter he stated that he thought my services might be utilized by the Security Agency. I am presumin that he i g s re- ferring to the Central Intelligence Agency. I hope that I am not imposing unduly by asking you if there is anything to the suggestions made by General Boling and my friend, Al Gruenther. Via the grapevine I have heard that you have not been too well lately. The newspapers even carried items that you hoped to com- plete the reorganization of the Agency and then retire. Have you ever given any thought to Colorado as an ideal spot for both hunting and fishing? I know that you are fond of both and, having lived in Colorado for two years, I know that the climate is very invigorating. Also, ranches can be bought very reasonably, chiefly in areas of good hunting and good fishing. You may have gotten a bit of the invigorating effect of the climate the short time you were there in 1949. I hope that you have recovered completely and can enjoy fully your retirement. In my book you have earned it. Thank you for your kind consideration.
