Gen. Vernon A. Walters Central Intelligence Agency Washington, D. C. 20505 Dear General Walters: Last week the New York Times commented briefly on the impending Congressional confirmation of your nomination to the post of Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency by President Nixon. The column noted that you have complete mastery over eight languages. Such a person, I thought to myself, might keenly appreciate how linguistic competence in several foreign tongues can expand one's intellectual perception and implement one's social and political weltanschauung. Consequently, I am writing to you with the hope that you will reflect favorably upon the enclosed resume and transcripts and take whatever action you deem appropriate. My educational background, cultural exposure, language facility and travel experience lend themselves to a flexibility in the choice of a post; however, my personal preference is toward primary intelligence gathering and reporting. STAT Deputy Director of Personnel, I might add, has in orme me that I have passed the Russian translation test and that my resume is being circulated. I am also in the Process of arranging STAT an interview this week with F- I a personnel representative of the Agency in Philadelphia. With congratulations and kindest regards. Yours sincerely, STAT Approved For Release 2003/08/25 : CIA-RDP80R01731R001900080061-1 Approved For Release 2003/08/25 : CIA-RDP80R01731R001900080061-1 Next 3 Page(s) In Document Exempt Approved For Release 2003/08/25 : CIA-RDP80R01731R001900080061-1 General Walters has noted the attached.
