General Vernon Walters, Deputy Director of Central Intelligence Central Intelligence Agency Washington, D. C. 20505 I talked to Bill Colby yesterday and invited him to come to Brown on the evening of Saturday, October 11th to participate in a Symposium on "CIA: Past Transgressions and Future Controls". The occasion will be Parents' Weekend and we will expect a large live audience and radio and tele- vision coverage. Bill is committed that evening to a reunion in Minn- eapolis of the O.S.S. Norwegian team, but he suggested that you might be willing to participate. A check with your office indicated that you might be free that evening. We would be honored to have you as our guest. The format will be for a panel of four or five with myself as moderator. Each panelist will have five minutes to state a position, followed by a chance for rebuttal after all have stated their positions. We then will have a general exchange and if time permits questions from the audience. The program will start at eight and conclude promptly at ten. We used a similar format for a Defense 'Symposium and it was very well received. I enclose a transcript of that. I hope you can be with us. I will call you on t 17th on your return. Very truly yours, Lyman B. Kirkpatrick, Jr. Professor LBK/lb Approved For Release 2003/07/29 : CIA-RDP80R01731R001900050031-7
