SUBJECT . Status of CIA Appraisal of Foreign Economic
Intelligence Requirements, Facilities, and
Arrangements Related to the National Security.
REFERENCE . Memorandum for the DCI from the Executive
Secretary, NSC, dated 1 September 1950, re
status reports on current projects.
1. On 7 and 8 November 1950, representatives of the Central Intel-
ligence Agency and other governmental agencies concerned discussed the
CIA draft statement of Foreign Economic Intelligence Requirements Relat-
in to the National Security dated 11 October 1950 and agreed that each
agency would submit comments to CIA by 20 November 1950.
2. To date comments have been received from: sixteen of the twenty-
four agencies concerned, and analysis of these returns is proceeding to-
gether with an effort to obtain the remaining eight agency comments.
3. Eighteen governmental asenci_es, exclusive of those in the
Department of Defense, are participating in the conduct of the survey of
facilities and arrangements which are, or could be emplo,-ed.for the pur-
pose of meeting foreign economic intelligence requirements of the overn-
ment. Of these, six reports have already been submitted for analysis,
five more are scheduled to be received by 3 December 1970, and active
liaison is being conducted to secure the rerainin; six surveys by 15 Dec-
ember 1950. Action is proceeding within CIA to tabulate the results of
these surveys in support of the analpsis required in paragraph lc of
NSC Action 282.
