There is an old saying One of the hardest things about the
business of lift is minding your own businessn, I have been trying
to live- up to this old saying, but since all the many experts in the
ensoian language field in our Administration, including the White
House and your State Department, have not called attention to the face.
that at least our, President's guest's name should be spelled correct-
ly, I am taking the liberty to bring this matter to your attention,
rather late than never.
The name Khrushchov is to be spelled not with an ev
but ov, because in the Russian language it is written with yo, an e
with two dots on top, which is equavalent to our English 0, and this
is the way Mr. Khrushchov himself spells his name. To prove this to
you I am enclosing herewith an Address of N.'S. Khrushchov, printed in
Soviet Russia, and distributed at large here during their Exhibition
at our Coliceum in New York, this summer. Although his signature is
illegible, but his name is printed in 7nglish not with an -e- but an
-0-.
During his T.11. end Radio appearance, lest Thursday, President
Eisenhower mispronounced the name Khrushchov - he is not to be blamed
for that, but his Russian specialists should not let such mistakes
occure. The accent is supposed to be on the last syllable or -ov-.
All the Russian names in feminine gender have the ending -a-e
It should be Mrs. Nina Petrovaa Khrushchova4 not Khrushchov. In good
taste, be the person a Czar or a. farmer, they are called by their
first mime and patronym (tether's name) - Nina Petrovna; if it is a
man for example Ivan, theson of Petr (Peter),it would be Ivan Petro- ,
vichl Mr. Khrushchov's children would be called: Sergei Nikitovieh(s*,
Yulia Nikitovne, and. not Nikitichnt, as I have seen in the newspapers,
Rada Nikitovna and Galina Nikitovna.
tith this letter I am not trying to criticise anyone, or to
offer you a lesson in the Russian lenguage, but to help to smooth the
visit of a guest, who is not very welcome among us.
1 am doing this in haste, please excuse all my errata.

THE USSR ON THE OPENING OF THE
SOVIET EXHIBITION IN NEW YORK
I am happy to avail myself of the opening of the Soviet
Exhibition in New York to convey to the American people hearty
greetings and best wishes for prosperity on behalf of the peoples
of the Soviet Union and the Soviet Government, as well as on my
own behalf.
The Soviet Government hopes that the exchange of exhibitions
will help the peoples of our two countries to know each other
better, which in turn, will undoubtedly contribute to better under-
standing between the United States and the Soviet Union. The
achievement of understanding and the establishment of friendly
relations between our two countries would be the best guarantee
for the preservation of world peace.
We Soviet people are deeply convinced that differences in our
ways of life and in our political and social systems should not be
an obstacle to fruitful cooperation in the interests of the peoples of
the Soviet Union and the United States.
May competition in producing means of destruction be replaced
by competition in producing material benefits and accumulating
spiritual values.
May the peoples of America and the Soviet Union join their
efforts in safeguarding peace and creating on our planet conditions
under which people will have no fear for their own future and that
of generations to come.
