MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
Morning Meeting of 6 January 1969
Godfrey noted that the Czech army alert has been terminated
and that it most likely was called in anticipation of a possible turbu-
lent reaction to Smrkovsky's speech yesterday.
Godfrey reported that there is nothing new on the Guyana situa-
tion and that it would appear the insurgency has been quashed.
*D/ONE advised that the USIB minute of 6 June 1968 indicated the
Director's desire to consider the possibility of a new world situation
Estimate following the arrival of a new Administration. The Director
suggested that such an Estimate be scheduled for June of 1969.
D/ONE noted that the Iran Estimate is being circulated for tele-
phonic concurrence.
D/ONE advised that the Chile Estimate has run into rough going
from State/ARA and the Ambassador.
Carver noted that it is not yet entirely clear what and who were
behind the grenading of the South Vietnamese Minister of Education
over the weekend.

Executive Assistant in March.
