Morning Meeting of 8 July 1968 ADD/I advised that a preliminary assessment of 8 July 1968 25 SR-71 mission has been completed, indicating that the mission provided excellent cloud-free coverage of the Hanoi-Haiphong area. ADD/I provided copies of the new edition of the Economic Intelli- gence Statistical Handbook, which stands as a detailed reference on economics in the Communist countries. The Director asked that copies be sent to, among others, Ambassador Ball and the Director of the Bureau of the Budget. Godfrey advised that the report on the security situation in Guatemala has been updated at the request of the White House following the discovery of bombs placed in the U. S. Ambassador's compound and in the Peace Corps building in Guatemala City. Godfrey noted that the Liberal Democrats in Japan appear to have won an impressive victory in yesterday's elections to the Japanese House of Councilors. D/ONE advised that the Estimate requested by General Wheeler on capabilities for verifying disarmament measures will be facilitated. DD/S expressed his gratitude for condolences expressed in con- nection with his mother's death. Maury advised that the schedule of the Henderson subcommittee is not yet firm, although Senator Ervin is expected to testify this week. The Director asked Maury to determine whether Senator Ervin has returned to Washington. Warner advised that a team of senior Department of Justice lawyers is undertaking to screen Warren Commission classified material with a view to releasing some documentation to the public.
