MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
Morning Meeting of 17 May 1967
DD/I passed on complimentary comments for the Agency from
the Corning Glass representative at the 20 January Brookings briefing.
DD/I noted that he will host a luncheon next Tuesday for Leroy
Lewis from U. S. Steel.
DD/I said that he complied with a request to the Director from
Walt Rostow for an analysis of the reported Malley interview with Chinese
leaders.
DD/I said that he has looked into the desirability of accepting an
invitation from Syracuse University to give an address at a graduate
school seminar in June and that his conclusion is negative. He will
prepare a letter for the Director's signature.
Godfrey discussed the status of the AN-12's scheduled to transit
China for North Vietnam. The Director cautioned against publishing hasty
speculative analysis of the causes for delay.
Abbot Smith reported two requests for Estimates, one from DIA
on Bolivia and another from State on the India-Pakistan arms question.
He proposed to draw up realistic terms of reference for the latter.
The Director agreed and suggested that ONE respond on a time schedule
which will make the most sense.
DD/S said that the Air America Board of Directors had expressed
appreciation for yesterday's hospitality.

DD/S&T noted that the apparent SS-3 tests are continuing, with
two yesterday and one this morning.
DD/S&T reported on his visit to NSA yesterday.
DDCI discussed the USIB agenda, and the Director agreed to a
pre-USIB meeting at 1515 today.
DDCI discussed with Abbot Smith the effect on European markets
of oil fields outside the Persian Gulf area.
DDCI discussed with the DD/I and Godfrey the problems of selection
of and comment on items in current intelligence publications.
The Director discussed the lead item in the 15 May Washington
Observer Newsletter concerning the Agency. (See Action 1)
The Director asked John Bross to pass a copy of the Newsletter
to Pat Coyne for Clark Clifford.
