Morning Meeting of 27 July 1967
The Director was at the Pentagon. The DDCI is on leave.
Executive Director was in the chair.
ADD/I called attention to a letter from General Wheeler setting
21 August as the date for a review of the State-Defense Study Group
paper on the Middle East. He will have an analysis ready for the
Director prior to that date. He also noted that we will be receiving
a letter from Julius Holmes asking for further economic analysis in
connection with the Study Group report.
Godfrey gave the A-DD/P a memorandum on the Latin American
Organization of Solidarity conference.
Kent reported a call from McGeorge Bundy asking for an Estimate
three weeks hence on the situation in and the prospects for the UAR
government. This has been laid on.
DD/S noted that a recent review of our emergency plans had
stood in good stead

Warner reported that the briefing for Senator Baker yesterday
went well and noted that the Senator now would like a similar briefing
on the Soviet ABM program. He will check this out with DD/S&T.

DD/S&T reported on the problems related to the release of a
report by the Joint Committee on Atomic Energy based on the Director's
testimony. He will sort this out in the course of the day. Technically
Walt Rostow has the ball.
A-DD/P noted that the Algerians are demanding a quid pro quo
for the extradition of Tshombe.
Executive Director noted that he will be on leave for two weeks
starting tonight and that Earman will be the Acting Executive Director.
1. Executive Director asked Godfrey to alert the Director to
the token material on the ChiCom air force.
