MEMORANDUM FOR THE
SUBJECT: Telephone Call from la r- John Stark, Director of the Joint
Economic Con= ittee, as 14 July 1973
1. Mr. Stark called at the recesst of the Committee to pass on s
request that I follow up the study they have already conducted on the
Soviet economy with public testimony later this coming week. I indi-
cated that I did not think it a very se action as I was not yet confirmed.
He stated he understood my problem and said that they might tome back
to me later. He said they would be particularly interested to low the
economic developments and relationships between the U. $. asd USSR
might relate to possible military activities and comparative strengths
in the future.
2. We left It that he would report my problem about testimony nexd
week to his Committee and that he might be back in touch with me later.
I stressed my interest in keeping the intelligence con=unity Out of the
newspapers and my own need for s mas homework on the subject of eco-
nomics before I was prepared to testy. (I certainly would hetpe any late
arrangements would be in executive session, if at all.)
