Approved For Release 200&M" 9 t 0 clAr L MEMORANDUM FOR: Robert W. Gambino Chairman, DCI Security Committee DCI/IC-78-4602 17 May 1978 FROM: Deputy to the DCI for Resource Management SUBJECT: Classification of Codewords and Titles. 1. Several people on My staff have expressed an interest in having a reference which gives the proper security classification and control for codewords and acronyms of compartmented systems when these identifiers are used alone. I am told this type of listing, which would be especially useful for clerical and registry personnel as well as others who deal routinely with such matters, does not exist in a consolidated form. Because a complete listing would cut across program responsibilities, I have turned to you for assistance, What we have in mind is a simple, straight forward reference possibly along the following lines; CODEWORD SECURITY CLASSIFICATION COMCONTROLTED ALPHA SECRET YES-BRAVO EXXON TOP SECRET NO 2. Should you decide this is a project you are willing to undertake, I would be glad to see that the product receives the widest possible distribution throughout the Community. cc; D/DCI/Support Distribution: Orig. - Adsee. 1 - D/DCI/RM 1 - ES/SECOM 1 - RMS Registry C/RM/CT/Registry Rewritten: Acting EO/RMS (17 May 19/8) 1 nn ~~~~??]] $ Approved For Release 2006/10/19 :iw3IRQ M[~D~R7 0 , 0027-7
