Dear Admiral:
This letter concerns your Educational Aid
Shortly after my departure as D. C. I. , the
organization sought "alumni" assistance for the
Educational Aid Fund. I gave a dinner at the Links
Club in New York, attended by 25 or 30 ex-C. I. A.
and 0. S. S. people. The dinner was successful in
raising some money and creating a continuing interest
in the Fund.
Then, I agreed to give $50,000 to the Fund
at $5,000 per year and have made four payments to
date. More recently, I offered to give another dinner
in New York if doing so would be helpful.
I was told that the Fund was doing pretty well
through "in-house" solicitation, that outside help was
not as vital as it had appeared to 'be earlier and finally,
with all of the criticism directed at C. I. A. , it was
probably better to keep the Fund on the back burner.
Therefore, I have taken no action with respect to my
own commitment nor the suggested dinner.
I wish you would give this matter some
cons ideration and, at your convenience, drop me a
note explaining your present policy with regard to
the Fund. There is no hurry on this and I know your
days are all too crowded. However, when you get
an opportunity, please drop me a line.
