Everywhere, daily we must pot only study, speak and write, but we must live the language of freedom. -F. M. Kcrchevillc Education For The New Frontier- The Language of Freedom A democratic society of free peoples is neither a mutual a-tttopsy nor a mutual admiration club. It is a dynamic and vol- untary association of individual men and women dedicated to the highest common good. Every talent, from the least to the t greatest, of each citizen must be devel- oped to its ultimate capability. Potential genius must not be held down to any common denominator. Such action is al- ways fatal to freedom. The will to remain free is the most formidable force in the history of human rights. Keeping that will alive and active is the mission of all alert and intelligent free men wherever they may be on earth or in outer space. Courage is more contagious than cow- ardice. No form of power, whether of fission or of fusion, no legal device or guarantee from the first to the last amendment of any constitution will absolutely assure lib- erty in large measure among men. An independent mind, a fearless spirit is still, and will ever remain, the ultimate weapon against both the dictator and the dema- gogue of any totalitarian tyranny of the extreme Communistic Left or nco-Fascist Right. To prove effective such a spirit must be desired, cherished and continual- ly exercised with wisdom and determina- tion. Representative government among free- dom-loving and deserving peoples of the I world over is now facing one of its most severe and frequently recurring trials. The newest of the new frontiers is facing us. If we act with knowledge .and wisdom, firmly and without delay, we shall have no cause for unnecessary worry and fear. Liberty does not rest on sheer animal courage nor does it consist of raw power. It comes with strength through the crea- tion of beauty - or beauty through [ strength. We know that to attain and retain our inherent, individual, civil and other rights there is no substitute for tough thinking, hard work, suffering and sacrifice. The happiness, the ever-deepen- Page 2 Approved For Release 2002/01/30 : CIA-RDP80B01676R003800110006-5 Approved For R~ 3Q'~~-RDP80B01676R ~lV1J~.~yy~ 0 AV the coming Social Events, Phil Eakin tells what is going on around the Fez Club, G. STRONG Potentate beautifully decorated by John Ginner and his Committee. Harold Brooks, Social Entertainment Chairman and his com- mittee put on a real show with good food, entertainment, dancing, and to top it off, a midnight breakfast. March 10th saw us through what should be the shortest meeting of the year as the ladies were all waiting in the hall. This night gas set aside in honor of our ladies. Charlie Bruton, Entertainment Chairman and his committee did themselves proud and ent;rtained the girls in great style with a style show second to none, and fine entertainment followed by the drawing for door prizes. Mae Beirne and her group gave us the works in good food, beautifully prepared and arranged in real Waldorf-Astoria style. The temple was jammed as usual and showed again the real need for larger quarten. Thanks to the many Nobles and their ladies from out of the city who helped to make Iadies_ Night a real occasion. AIN'S MESSAGE needed a great challenge-sdnrc real cause to which they could give themselves. Live for self alone and you're on your way to a neurosis. Do you know the difference between a neurotic and psychopath? The psychopath says, "Two and two are five." The neurotic says, "No, two and two are four, but it makes me nervous." When you, as an individual, live for a great purpose, as the Shrine lives to serve the helpless, then life becomes significant, it has enthusiasm and zest. Self becomes less important. Jesus is right. The greatest men are the greatest servants. W'e're put here on earth to help others. Service to others-that's the life purpose of the True Shrine and the earnest Shriner.
