I have also attached a copy of the letter I wrote to Mr. Marken during your absence. 15 September 61 FMC (DATE) SRN FRANCISCO JUNIOR CHAMBER OF COMMERCE 333 PINE STREET, SAN FRANCISCO 4, CALIFORNIA . . . EXBROOK 2-4511 September 1, 1961 Mr. Allan W. Dulles 2430 E. Street N.W. Washington, D.C. The San Francisco Junior Chamber of Commerce is pleased to invite you to speak at the annual Bosses' Day luncheon. This is our most important gathering of the year, and it is attended by 300 to 400 members of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and their employers, representing the nucleus of the San Francisco business and professional society. The date of this luncheon can be arranged for any week day during the month of November or the first week of December to fit the convenience of the speaker. Speaking for the San Francisco Junior Chamber of Commerce and for the business community as a whole, I venture to say that we have many questions as to what problems face business and businessmen in the struggle with the Communist ideology and what we can do to help the cause of freedom. We do not pretend to prescribe the topic of your talk, should we have the honor of your acceptance, but wish to make clear that our invitation is based on a sincere desire to clarify what we as individuals, and as a community, can do to preserve freedom for ourselves and insure for all peoples the right to think, speak, and choose for themselves. We have a limited budget with which to arrange our meetings. For this reason, we wish to inquire, assuming it is otherwise possible for you to accept, if there is a possibility that this luncheon could be scheduled to coincide with any trips to the West Coast you may be making for other reasons; or whether the government agency with which you are associated would share expenses with us. If you have any questions, please let me know. We sincerely thank you for your consideration. Very truly yours, MEMBER: CNN ~~~Uv~~~5~ LUUZ/ILTRrA~~~"R17fjf6e1-7E8CE JUNIOR CHAMBER INTERNATIONAL
