In saying goodbye to Chris Herter today before his
departure for the Geneva Conference, I took up one or two matters
of business, including our intention to
They all seemed highly satisfied with the proposed assign-
ment.
Mr. Herter raised no objection whatever to proceeding,
it being understood that the assignment would only be carried
through if health remained entirely satisfactory.
I said that he seemed to me to have made a complete recovery,
and I felt would be entirely able to carry on his duties
I said that we would give him expert deputies take off some of
the burden of the work, which should not be/ rain to him.
