DEPUTIES' MEETING
Monday, 4 June 1956
PRESENT: Mr. Dulles, Mr. Wisner, Mr. Amory, Col. White,
Messrs. Kirkpatrick, Helms, Bissell, Roosevelt,
Gen, Truscott, Mr.
Mr. Dulles:
a. Referred to the excellent job done by certain of our
people in acquiring what is purported to be Khrushchev*s speech
before the 20th Party Congress and stated consideration should
be given for monetary awards or possibly spot promotions to
those people involved in this operation. Col. White and Mr.
Kirkpatrick noted that. there is a proposed Agency regulation
which would permit the Director to do this. The Diree
he would like to see this regulation but in th eantime DD/P
should furnish recommendations respecting the awards mentioned
above based on the provisions of the regulation.
d. Noted he had received some documents from NEA and OCI
in connection with his briefing for the President on
material and the forthcoming visit of Nehru and asked to
have the profile on Nehru brought up to date and returned to
him the latter part of this week.
e. Noted that for some time he had been considering raising
the question of having documents submitted to him for his
information and/or action prepared double spaced. The Director
made it clear he had no difficulty reading single spaced items,

however, he had found that double spacing is easier to read and
quite a time saver. After some discussion the Director asked
those present to think about this proposal and directed Mr.
to raise it at the Deputies' Meeting on 11 June,
Mr, Amory:
a. Noted that had asked him to participate in
the preparation of a long range study with respect to plutonium
produced by reactors, The approved and suggested that
DD/I touch base with I on this.
Col. White:
a. Noted that the Director might receive another call from
Senator Bridges urging that the firm of Williams, Coile, &
Blanchard be employed as consulting architects for our new
building. Col. White said that Harrison and Abramovitz had made
it clear they had so reduced their fee that it would be impossible
for them to allot any money for consultants and further that
they had sufficient trained people to handle any problems that
might arise in connection with our new building, Harrison &
Abramovitz would have no objection to employing consulting
architects should their fee be increased to support this
additional expense,
b. Noted he had received a letter from Gen. Anderson,
Virginia Commissioner of Highways, indicating he would be glad
to see the Director an time for the purpose of di
at the Lanalev site.

Mr. Kirkpatrick:
a, Reported that had given Bill King of the
Vice President's Office, a three-hour briefing which had been
well received.
