Referred to a letter he had received from Senator Knowland respecting Professor and noted after he had replied to Senator Knowland the correspondence would be turned over to DD/I for further action. c. Noted that Mr. Helms had Copy #6 and Mr. Wisner Copy 46 of the I Paper". (NOTE: The remaining copies of this paper are in the possession of the Director, who intends to distribute them at today's PSB Luncheon requesting that they be returned to him immediately after the meeting.) The Director also asked that 0 and those who assisted in the preparation of this paper be complimented for their ex- cellent work. d. Asked Mr. Helms to send a cable to the several field stations requesting them to have another look at the situation as a result of the Beria incident, with a view to obtaining the defection of high-level Comonunists, and in this connection also asked that consideration be given to publicizing, through appropriate channels, the fact that the President had signed a bill authorizing citizenship for the Polish pilot, Jarecki. Mr. Amory: Left with the Director for his review a copy of the Status Report due the NSC on the Foreign Intelligence Program. Mr. Kirkpatrick: a. Noted that the Kiplinger News Letter of this week contained an item stating CIA would be investigated next year by a Committee of Congress, and suggested some guidance be given in view of possible questions they might receive The Director asked Mr. Kirkpatrick to discuss this with Colonel Grogan who has excellent contacts with the Kiplinger staff. b.
