PRESENT: Mr. Dulles, General Cabell, Messrs. Wisner, Amory, Colonel White,

a. Referred to the forthcoming trip to be taken by the Vice
President and stated that: (1) he had been advised that the Secret
Service had been in touch with Colonel Edwards regarding personal security
for the Vice President and his party during this trip; (2) there is no
set-up in our overseas stations to provide such security, other than liaison
with local security organizations; (3) he assumed the Director would wish
to participate in any briefing furnished the Vice President. Mr. Amory
noted that: (1) Ev Gleason had been designated as the focal point to
provide the Vice President with statements of U. S. policy in the countries
to be visited and had called upon us for assistance from the intelligence
viewpoint; (2) in this connection we have been in touch with Christian
Herter, Jr., who is to accompany the Vice President. The Director noted
his intention to speak to Mr. Nixon at the earliest opportunity.
b. Asked if there was further action required on our part to
again touch base with I regarding Burchett. The Director stated
he did not anticipate anything further from but asked DD/P to 25X1
prepare a proposed CIA policy statement on this matter. Mr. Wisner said
this was under way in the form of a cable which would be forwarded to the
Director for his approval prior to dispatch.

Reported it had now been determined that polio was the cause of the
death of I on Saipan, and that all medical security precautions
