Director's Meeting
Monday, 21 May 1951

There was discussion of the letter to Mr. Lovett on the request
for CIA material for Congress. The Director said that he wanted to make
certain changes in it before transmission.
Mr. Wolf said that he had talked to and
that he would hear definitely today whether Mr. would come
with us.
Mi'. Wolf reported that his staff had concluded that no legis-
lation was necessary for CIA to establish a career service and that
Col. Baird was working out the details.
The Director noted that the log had indicated that Czechoslovakia
was willing to exchange AP correspondent Oatis for cessation of Radio
Free Europe from Munich. He pointed out that the case might be
a bad precedent from this point of view and that we would have to be
pretty hard-headed in being cajoled into this form of charter,
what the doctor is to do in

The Director agreed to the plans'of Col. Hansen's sponsoring
a dinner for certain top press representatives to discuss the world
situation in the process of which CIA's press relations might be
surveyed.
