This was in answer to a request from. Ropa of the Unger Committee. Copies are being disseminated to committee members. DDCI asked that a copy be given to Komer at the White House. Acting DD/I tabled a memo on a new, large radio broadcast trans- mitter under construction in Havana Province. It will be operational this summer and is believed to be intended as a relay station for Radio Moscow. Godfrey briefed on the situations in Guatemala, Indonesia, and Vietnam where Ky has disposed of Thi. It was noted that there has been some talk recently of a Cornell University study of the Indonesian 30 September coup, and Acting DD/I was asked to inquire about this study. Kent reported a telephone request from an INR officer. Ambassador Bowles would like to pass a sanitized version of a recent 25X1 NIE on the ChiCom economy. The IN~nfficer was told that it would be up to INR to recommend this to USIB. deSilva reported on the nature of the "strike force" camp at Ashau overrun by the Viet Gong today. There was a small team of some seventeen U. S. Special Forces instructors and advisors. The over- running eliminates a friendly post near the Laotian border in an area where Communist infiltration occurs. At DDCI inquiry deSilva reported on the status of arrangements to brief or otherwise provide support to the HEW mission travel' to Saigon. Carver will brief the group tomorrow, and n 25X1 Saigon has been alerted to contact the medical officials who are members of the mission. White can be in- cluded in the Congressional Record. DD/S&T reported that CORONA was successfully launched He reported also on the continuing difficulties and problems apparently confronting the Soviets in connection with the icebreaker Lenin. DD/S&T reported on the unsettled status of the investigation of the U-2 lost over the Sierras recently. Acting DD/P mentioned a case in Laos in which some $1, 500 of operational funds was lost for good reason and in a good cause. 1. The DDCI requests DD/I analysis and reporting on three re- cent ChiCom articles which are the subject of current U. S. press reporting. The Agency's views of these three articles are to be set forth in memo form, and the memo is to be disseminated. (DD/I - In the course of the day) 2.
