It was noted that Senator Russell believes that his position would receive 75 percent ap- proval in the event of a showdown vote on a resolution from the Foreign Relations Committee. Godfrey noted current reporting concerning ee Action 1) Godfrey reported briefly on the situation in Vietnam and on word that U Thant continues to refuse to consider another term as UN Secretary General. Word also is that Ralph Bunche will resign when U Thant leaves. DD/S&T reported that the second bucket of the CORONA mission was recovered successfully over the weekend. DD/S&T reported that ADD/S&T had met with DIA officers on 3 and 4 June to discuss DIA views on the Soviet ABM program. S. military operations against supply lines. DDCI reported that the Saturday Evening Post, despite a recent statement by Senator Symington, intends to publish at some future time a story it has purchased about the ex-RAF pilot Hawke, who claims a CIA connection in his smuggling of B-26's to Portugal. 1.
