Approved For Release 2008/03/03: CIA-RDP80B01676R001500070017-9 6 September 1966 MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD Morning Meeting of 6 September 1966 DD/I noted that a number of recent intelligence publications have been compiled in response to Secretary Rusk's request for an update DD/I stated that he would prepare a memorandum for the Director's signature trans- mitting these publications. The Director asked that the estimate of the number of insurgents DD/I reported on meeting with Webb of NASA regarding political and economic factors on the Soviet space program. DD/I proposed, and the Director agreed, that a briefing should be prepared and given to Webb in late September. Carver noted that Dr. Steve Enke is going to Saigon to look into the economic warfare program for Secretary McNamara. Enke has been in contact with the Agency on this matter. DD/S&T commented on recent Chinese Communist attempts to 25X1 intercept IDEALIST aircraft with SAM's. The Director noted that he had received a call from of NSA regarding the agreement of the author of The Codebreakers to delete certain passages. T he Director asked to pr epare a letter for his signature to 25X1 25X1 The Director noted that he is to brief, at the request of the President, Senators Mansfield, Fulbright, and Russell on the recently published study, The Vietnamese Communists' Will to Persist. The Director requested the DD/S&T to prepare a memorandum, for his meeting with Secretary McNamara, on the technical consider- ations of OXCART overflights of Cuba. DD/S&T suggested, and the Director agreed, that ONE prepare a paper commenting on the Cuban and Soviet reactions to such overflights.
