- 'Approved For ReJ ase 2006/08/09: CIA-RDP80B01676R001400050006- E; ecu!iae it^;istry j 16 October 1964 1. On Wednesday, 14 October, I had dinner with General and Mrs. Omar Bradley in honor of Admiral and Mrs. Carney. Present with a total of twelve guests were Justice and Mrs. Thurman Arnold. 2. In an after-dinner conversation, apropos of the Warren Report, I stated that he considered the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a publicity-seeking agency that had a high degree of incompetence. He said that he had defended Owen Lattimore and that the Bureau had tried over and over again by chicanery and illegal means to convict Lattimore even when they knew he was innocent. He stated that Mr. J. Edgar Hoover was one of the greatest press agents of our times, with all of his activities designed to promote J. Edgar Hoover. 3. I Isaid that, in distinct comparison, he wanted to commend to the assembled group the Central Intel- ligence Agency. He said they exhibited the highest degree of professionalism and the highest degree of anonymity and that they were a truly first-class outfit for which he had the highest regard. 4. I stated that this appeared difficult to believe and when he asked why, I replied that I was the Deputy Director -- he expressed great surprise and stated that he had not caught my name or realized that I was connected with the Agency when he made his prior remarks. -Approved For Release 2006/08/09: CIA-RDP80Rn 1A7ARrlrlII4 QQr;Qfl lE-F MSC:blp Distribution: #riginal - DDCI 1-ExDir 1-DD/P 1 - General Counsel 1-ER Marshall S.
