NOTES FOR DDCI
30 June 1964
1. In answer to your query, you are a member of the United
Airlines 100, 000-Miler Club. That accounts for your recent mail.
The formal presentation to you of a plaque and your credentials as
a club member will presumably take place sometime in the near
future.
Meanwhile, there has been a slight delay in getting your
membership in the American Admirals Club, but this will come
along in due course as will membership in the TWA club.
2. When the DCI signed off on the latest quarterly report on
the number of TKH billets by agency, he expressed some concern
that the CIA figure is aboutand he asked Walt to remind him
to ask you about this. I have asked to get together with
Security and give me a paragraph's worth of explanation as to how
we got to this figure.
3. Secretary Ailes of the US Army has written to Mr. McCone
thanking him for his recent address to the Army War College. Ailes
said General Train "was so enthusiastic in his praise of your per-
formance" that Ailes felt he wanted to add his own thanks.
4. The minutes of the State Department staff meeting of
24 June show that former Senator Bill Benton has prepared a
lengthy report following a recent visit to Moscow where he met
with Khrushchev among others. The report is said to be inches
thick. The main points are: (a) the Soviets are morally convinced
of the rightness of their aid to rebel causes (thus, we should not
expect cooperation from the Soviets in stabilization efforts in less
developed countries); (b) with respect to Cuba, the Soviets are
genuinely worried about "trigger happy" Cubans; (c) the Soviet fear
of
genuine
5. The DCI gdoyf~f on the OGC recommendation to provide
the sensitive nuclear info to I F on the Stennis
Committee staff.
