ARMED FORCES STAFF COLLEGE
Office of the Deputy Commandant
Norfolk 11, Virginia
16 February 1959
In view of the temporary absence of the Commandant, Vice Admiral
Wellborn, it is my pleasure to invite members of your Agency to make a
presentation to the Twenty-fifth Class of the Armed Forces Staff College
at 1000 (EST), on Thursday, 21 May 1959, on the subject, "Unconventional
Warfare".
It would be appreciated if a representative from your Agency would
talk for approximately 30 minutes on the role of unconventional warfare
in furthering military and political objectives; the concept of the inter-
related fields of guerrilla warfare, subversion, and other forms of
unconventional warfare against hostile states; the organization to conduct
operations in these fields; and the responsibility of the Department of
Defense, the three Services, and their departments or agencies for un-
conventional warfare planning. Additionally, I would like a speaker from
your Agency to give a short presentation of approximately 15 minutes
covering escape and evasion and air support related to these activities.
In conjunction with these talks, I am asking the Department of the Army's
Office of Special Warfare to participate again for approximately 20
minutes.
This presentation on "Unconventional Warfare" will have been
preceded immediately by a 40-minute portrayal of "Psychological
Warfare", also to be given by a member of the Department of the
Army's Office of Special Warfare. Approximately 30 minutes will be
devoted to a combined question period on both subjects following the
last presentation.
I would a reciate ver much our makin available

if possible, since they contributed most effectively to previous presen-
tations and discussion periods.
