Dear Mr. Dulles:
Immediately following the issuance of President Eiserhr.wnrIs
letter of October 11, 1954 approving an annual Presidential safety
citation, an ad hoc committee was appointed in the Federal Safety
Council to explore and develop the criteria for the award standards.
I am pleased to announce that the voting representatives of
the Council., at their meeting on September 13, unanimously approved
the enclosed "Standards for Annual Selection of Recipient of the
President's Safety Award", These standards are the resolutiots of
the various Departments and Agencies. In summarizing their report.,
the ad hoc committee recommended the establishment of a continuing
committee to evaluate application of the standards and determine
means to strengthen and otherwise improve the scope.
The first annual Presidential safety citation -will be Lade
to the Department or Agency making the greatest progress in accident
prevention in the calendar year of 1955.
