This office has the responsibility of submit-
ting the reports on behalf of the Department of Justice
on enrolled bills to the Executive Office of the President.
In view of the short period of time in which executive
action must be taken on enrolled bills it is imperative
that there be no delays in making our reports.
Enrolled private immigration bills pose a
problem of particular concern inasmuch as the submission
o- reports thereon are in some instances delayed because
of the necessity of obtaining record checks of the bene-
ficiaries of such measures. In order to minimize the delays
in such cases it would be appreciated if arrangements be
made to give priority to our requests so that returns there-
on would be made within a period of twenty-four hours follow-
ing the receipt of the requests. In those instances in which
it is not possible to make returns within that period it is
requested that the Immigration and Naturalization Service be
notified by telephone.
