Approved For Release 2003/05/05 CIA-RDP80B01676R000700130013-9e r ~Y~.rY .P 30 June 1964 MEMORANDUM FOR: Director of Security SUBJECT : Debriefing of Ambassadors and Other Government Officials on CIA Operations 1. The recent publication of "The Invisible Government, " con- taining as it does so many obvious breaches of security an the part of former Federal officials and probably some current Federal officials, raises the question of the debriefing of officials of other Government departments and agencies on CIA activities. For example, during the course of his career every U. S. Ambassador is privileged to become aware of a considerable number of Agency activities and operations. I assume that he is debriefed by his own department, but does this debriefing specifically refer, in any regard, to the knowledge he has obtaim d concerning highly sensitive CIA work? Would you look into thisd see whether the Agency should make any more specific references to other agencies to insure that they are specifically debriefing their pex'ennel on any knowledge of CIA activities. -J 2. Do we, as a regular procedure, keep a list of all other Govern- t officials briefed on any CIA activities? If we don't, shouldn't we' Ai shouldn't this be something that is done quite carefully at Head- quarters, all field installations, etc.. with a central list maintained here? (Seed) Lyman B.
