STAT STAT STAT STAT Executive Bever Approved For Release 2002/08/28 : CIA-RDP80601676R000500010009- 19 June 1965 REFERRAL TO NSC NOT REQUIRED Dear Don: I have your gracious Istt.r of 10 June 1965r ling the Cl for the next year in connection vities of the Office et Science and Technology. As you Is peesently Assistant Director in charge of our Office Lit which we are concentrating most of our r applications En CIA? and! have discussed this request carefully with my Deputy. Dr. Wheslon. Our general reaction to such a request would be positive4 as we believe it important both to support intragoverarnsnt enterprises and to give our own people a broader exposure to Government operations. A special problem arises in case H. has STAT an able deputy, . I, who could noznaflv houIder kis responeibilities for this period. Unfortunately, I I is STAT leaving CIA and the Government this summer for family reasons, and this is a major loss. There is really no one else in that office who Cal1 step up to take 'place. Were we to send STAT 1 off on a year's assignment we would create a very serious lack of leadership in the over-all CIA program Sc, application of Automatic Data Processing techniques to the intelligence problen. I believe this to be one of our most pressing problems, and trust that you will understand my reluctance to move backward on it. . Perhaps this letter can give you some of the added information you need. I am interested in the possibility of your lending the Office of Science and Technology the services of your Assistant Director for for about one year.
