In accordance with the Presidential memorandum to the heads
of departments and agencies dated 25 February 1965 and Bureau of
the Budget Circular A -63 dated 2 March 1964. Management of Inter-
agency Committees, the Department of Defense has reviewed all
committees which DoD chairs and which are participated in by
representatives of the Department of Defense.
Reporting requirements levied on this department by the
Bureau of the Budget did not allow sufficient time to coordinate with
your department prior to presenting recommendations to the BoB.
However, in order to keep you apprised of committees chaired or
participated in by your department on which changes have been recom-
mended by DoD, I am attaching an extract of the portion of our report
to the Bureau of the Budget which will be of interest to you.
I am initiating an additional review of the DoD participation in
more than 300 interagency committees which DoD activities do not
chair but for which continued participation by DoD has been recom-
mended. This review should be accomplished within the next 90 to
120 days and I will communicate with you pertaining to any recom-
mendations resulting from this review.
