Approved For F Wase 2002/1.14/08 : CIA-RDP80BO1676f 0100070006-0 NSC REFERRAL NOT REQUIRED President John F. Kennedy The White House Washington, D. C. My dear Mister President: Anniston, Alabama September 16, 1963 I wish to protest, as a peace-loving progressive American, the use of American armed forces and ma- terials in south Vietnam. The Vietnamese people do NOT want us to aid the Diem-Nhu dictatorship. We are only supporting the regime's Himmler-like special forces simply because the Central Intelligence Agency deems it necessary. Vietnamese opinion, or anyone else's for that matter, means very little to these international gangsters. On the pret*xt of a phony war against Communists, the Diem lackeys of American imperialism now wage war against Buddhist monks and the youth of the country. Mme. Nhu has such disdain for human life as to say of the protesting monks, "Let them barbecue themselves." These atrocities expose the decadence not only of the Diem dictatorship but even more of American imperialism. How can such consorting with criminals be in the national interest of the United States? It may help those inter- ests in Wall Street who fatten off colonialism, the ultra-rightists and racists in the U.S., who want a similar situation here. But it can only bring - as it already has - harm to the vast majority of the American people, whose hope for a happier, more prosperous future can only be achieved in a world where peace reigns among free and independent nations. I call. upon you, Mr. President, to: * Stop all financial, economic and military aid to the Diem-Nhu dictatorship. Pull the CIA out of South Vietnam. Recall all American troops, advisors and war material from that nation. Jack Borders P. O. September 16, 1963 The President The White House Washington, D.C. Dear Mr. President, How can we support a war and the government behind the war when that government is constantly persecuting its own people and double-crossing us as well? The Ngo family may be Catholic, and call themselves Christians, but to persecute their own people as the ruling family in Vietnam is doing is not Christian at all. They dth it in the name of anti-Communism but the power behind the throne has made it clear he would rather have the North Vietminh in his country than the Americana. It would seem obvious that all the Ngo family really want is power. We are giving them this power to the tune of a million a day from our open funds and the public does not know how much more through the secret funds of the CIA. This power and wealth they are using to destroy their own people. The guilt of this genocide is also ours for making it possible. Will we never learn? We backed Chiang Kai-shek. He is an exile on Taiwan, thrown out in spite of our mammoth aid in military equip- ment and funds. We backed Sighman Rhee. His own people threw him out. If our troops left Korea, the North and South would join together to make their own country their own way. The time may come when they will throw us out as the Chinese have and the Japanese would like to. And now we are backing Ngo Dinh Diem --- We would have more influence in Asia - the time for power on another continent has passed - ie we took our troops out of those countries and had normal trade and educational exchanges with them. We must take our troops and money out of Vietnam.
