The Honorable Frank Church
United States Senate
Washington, D.C. 20510
Dear Senator Church,
As promised in my testimony on 9 June, I am
enclosing a copy of the article from the San Francisco
Chronicle which indicates the source of a serious
intelligence leak may have come from someone close
to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. I emphasize
again that I don't accept this report at face value but
only report what has been said.
You also asked me to let you know whether the
Cubans claim that the military personnel they have
been sending to Ethiopia and Angola are volunteers.
The answer is yes. A statement made by Castro on
15 March 1978 is typical. In a speech referring to
Cuban soldiers in Ethiopia, he stated, "As with Angola,
there were not 1000 or 10,000--there were hundreds of
thousands of fellow Cubans ready to fulfill that
internationalist mission."

Dear Bob,
Just a note to tell you how disappointed I am that we were unable
to get together last week. I was called away on short notice to testify
on the Hill and you were on your way before we could reschedule. Hope
we can get together next time you are in Washington.
On a more personal note, some relatives of ours, Bob and Jane Caw,
live in Kuala Lumpur (he is Administrator of the International School
there). If you should run across them, I would appreciate your passing
on our best wishes.
Again, sorry we missed connections. All the best.
Yours,
C- ::~ !
