SUBJECT : Attendance at Convention, New York, New York,
March 27-29, 1972
1. I would appreciate receiving official
orders so that I may attend the upcoming annual
meeting of the Association for Asian Studies at the
Waldorf-Astoria -- this in pursuit of my CAR life.
2. I have been a member for some time. I
attended the last annual meeting, here in Washington
a year ago; and the year before that "Ton NIPS) in
San Francisco.

The next annual meeting of the Association for Asian Studies will take
place at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York city, March 27-29, 1972.
HOTEL RESERVATIONS: If you will need hotel accommodation in New York,
fill. out the enclosed reservation card and mail it directly to the Waldorf-
Astoria Hotel as soon as possible. Rooms will be assigned on a first-
come-first-served basis.
PRE-REGISTRATION: Pre-registration alleviates overcrowded registration
conditions, especially during the first morning of the meeting. If you
know that you will be attending the meeting, indicate this in the space
provided on your dues envelope and add a $4.00 ($2.00 for students) fee
to your dues payment. Return this with the enclosed pre-registration card
filled out as fully as possible. When you arrive at the meeting, all you
will have to do is pick up your identification badge which will be already
prepared for you -- and add your New York address to the pre-registration
card. In the event you are unable to attend the meeting, yourpre-regis-
tration fee will be refunded. Registration fees at the hotel will be:
Member - $6.00, Student Member - $4.00, and Non-Member - $6.00.
PLACEMENT SERVICE: The Association will again operate a job placement
service at the annual meeting. Both the institutional and individual
application forms will be printed in the January issue of the Newsletter
so that interested parties may fill them out in advance of the meeting.
Additional forms will be available at the placement desk in the exhibit
area of the Waldorf-Astoria. The Association strongly urges all institu-
tions seeking Asian specialists to register their job openings through
the Association's placement service and to conduct interviews within that
framework.
ANNUAL ELECTION: The ballot for the annual election of the Association's
Board of Directors and the Regional Council members is enclosed.
MEMBERSHIP DUES: Your membership renewal dues notice is also enclosed.
Place your payment in the envelope provided and return it to the Secre-
tariat s soon as possible.
