As you may recall from our previous correspondence, for
over 205 years the American Whig-Cliosophic Society has
served as the focal point in the Princeton community for stu-
dent political and intellectual involvement in public and
international affairs. Past members of the Society include
James Madison, John Foster Dulles, John Harlan, Woodrow
Wilson, and Adlai Stevenson.
In response to that committment to promote rational and
informed discussion, we have annually sponsored a series of
visits to the campus by distinguished individuals in the fields
of public and international affairs. Recent visitors include
U.N. Ambassador Agha Shahi, former Brazilian President Dr.
Juscelino Kubitschek, Senator Gravel, Senator Javits, Attorney
Melvin Belli, Betty Friedan, Admiral Thomas H. Moorer, and
most recently, Associate Justice William H. Rehnquist.
In view of your expertise in international affairs, the
International Relations Council, one of the many subsidiaries
of the Society, on behalf of the Society would be most pleased
if you would be able to participate in our speakers program
during either the fall or spring academic semester, the former
ending December 15th, the latter beginning February 5th and
ending May 21st. Our usual format is comprised of an afternoon
seminar with a small group of Society members followed by a
reception, a dinner, and an evening address. This format is,
however, very flexible.
We will, of course, be responsible for any travel expenses
incurred.
Hoping that you will be able to find the time in your
busy schedule to join us at Princeton, I am,
Very truly yours,

Dear Mr. Hiller:
Both General Cushman and I appreciate your in-
vitation to speak before the American Whig-Cliosophic
Society. As you probably know, General Cushman has
been appointed Commandant of the Marine Corps and is
no longer Deputy Director.
Dr. Hugh Cunningham, Director of the Office of
Training, has been invited to speak to the Woodrow
Wilson School. The dates are not yet firm, but I would
like to have Dr. Cunningham represent the Agency before
your group when he is in Princeton. Dr. Cunningham
will be in touch with you directly as to dates.
Sincerely,

Dear Mr. Helms:
For the past 205 years the American Whig-Cliosophic Society
has served as the focal point for political and intellectual
activity and. discussion in the Princeton community. Past
members of the Society include-James Madison, Woodrow Wilson,
Adlai Stevenson, and John Foster Dulles.

prominent individuals in the field of international affairs
to visit the campus and address our group. In view of your
eminent position in this field, we would be most deeply honored
if you would be able to join us some time during the upcoming year.
The topic for the evening may deal with the role of the Central
Intelligence Agency in our foreign policy or with the international
situation in general. The speech usually lasts about 4+5 minutes
and is followed by a short question-and-answer period. This format
is, of course, highly flexible. Although I am fully aware of your
busy schedule, I hope you will give your consideration to the
following dates: in January--31; in February--2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 11,
14, 15, 16, 17, 21, 22, 24; in March--13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 28, 29;
