MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
SUBJECT: Discussion of Soviet Defense Programs--in Dollars--
with Brian Benson, Senate Republican Policy .Com-
mittee Staff
1. Mr. Benson originally, called me some weeks ago asking
for our latest figures on estimated dollar costs of Soviet
defense programs. I suggested at that time that he wait until
we had a chance to update our earlier unclassified memorandum
on this subject. He called back again-last Friday and asked,
where we stood. I discussed this with the DDI who suggested
we provide Mr. Benson with the preliminary comparisons of
dollar costs for 1974 and projected into 1975. These figures
had been prepared in response to a query from Andy Marshall.
2. I got through to Mr. Benson this morning and suggested
that he first get a copy of the Director's testimony before
Senator Proxmire last June. He agreed to do this. I then pro-
vided him with the following figures from the Andy Marshall
memorandum: k
