Korry and OER Over Chile

REMARKS:
US Ambassador to Chile Korry has
written Dr. Allen concerning OER's
interpretation of the Chilean economy
(as you remember, the Ambassador had
earlier criticized the Chilean NIE).
Ambassador Korry reiterates his
view that OER's views on Chile are
"biased" and "tendentious" and com-
plains that a recent OER visitor to
Chile, , was willing only
to "de en , no to discuss or under-
stand." The Ambassador states that
his experience with OER is "less than
worthy of the agency" and makes him
question the "intelligence quality of
other reports." The Ambassador has
sent copies of his letter to Assistant
Secretary of State for Latin American
Affairs Meyer and Tom Hughes.
Dr. Allen, in the attached memo,
states that Korry's comments are
inaccurate and untrue and that his
