Approved For Release 2006/08/09: CIA-RDP80BO1083AO00100140053-2 SECRET 30 J 1962 masommm FAR: Deputy Director of Central Intelligence SUBJECT . Senior Officers Orientation Course C-aducteed by the U. S. Aruy Special Warfare School 1. The course at Fort Brags was attended by 96 officers 'and civilians. The great majority of the class were regular A:my officers in the grade of Col:mel. There were three General officers present, and a mall. number of Lieutenant Colonels and Majors were also included. The eleven civilians ranged from 06-12 to POD-1. 2. The course included days of instruction and consti- tuted s survey of the principles of caunter-invur#ency opera- tiona, review of a number t case et'adies, and she briefing on the capabilities and role f the U. S. Army Special Forces. 3. The instruction was of high quality and the course did an excellent job of ac ,inting senior officers, who had no previous experte nce in the field, with the problem of outer-Insurgency. I strongly re d that we continue- to use the two billets available to the Ancy, but I wry, suggest that, instead of sending professional parvmili.:tary people, we would benefit node by sending seniar Agency officials whose work is affected by the problem of counter-insurtcy but who he not had the opportunity to be exposed to al the fuli technicalities. 0 pull kPlanning) CMORI/CDF Approved For Release 2006/08/09: CIA-RDP80BO1083AO00100140053-2
