Approved For Release 001/08/01 : CIA-RDP80-01826R00080OQ20014-1 9 November 1956 MRACMM FOR: Director of Training FROM: Chief, Plans and Policy Staff SUBJECT: CIA Participation in the National War College 1. On 23 October at the National Star College Alumni Association Luncheon, Admiral Wooldridge told me that he had recently recommended that the Joint Chiefs of Staff provide at least four or five spaces for Agency personnel in the 1957-58 Class of the National War College. The Joint Chiefs Viii inform him of their decision on his recommenda- tion sometime in December. 2. The Admiral said he based his recommendation on two factors, namely: a. that CIA members of the classes at the National War College consistently were among the outstanding members of the class and furthered the aims of the College by their excellent participation; b. that he personally shared the DCT's view that Agency participation in the NWC should be increased. 3. The Admiral pointed out that only the Armed Forces and the Department of State actually have a standing quota for attendance in classes at the F*IC. Other civilian agencies of the Govern ent, such as CIA, USIA, NSA, Commerce., Treasury, etc., are invited each year on an ad, hoc basis. In the Class of 1957, the civilian representation is as follows; Dept. of State 18 USIA 3 Dept. of Defense 4 NSA 2 CIA 3 Commerce 1 4. By separate co xication from the Executive Officer, NWC, OTR has been informed that Cue Clearances will be required for each member of the class beginning with the Class of 1957-58. 5. In view of the foregoing, it is recommended that: a. at least five principal and three alternate candidates be selected for the 1957-58 class at the National War College; and Approved For Release 2001/08/01 : CIA-RDP80-01826R000800020014-1 Approved For Release 2001/08/01 : CIA-RDP80-01826R000800020014-1 b.
