that the Joint Chiefs of St?tf provide at Least four or five spaces
for Agency personnel In the 195'(-58 Class of the Nat for al. War, College
The Joint Chiefs will inform him of their decision on ..i .r?eccmaenda-

2. The ,-drat said he based his recommendation on two factors,
namely;
a ,that CIA members of the classes at the Na:'Ion L War
College consistently were among the outstanding members of the
class and tuxthered the alms of the College by their excellent
participation;
b. that he 'personally shared Vie 1X:1 a s view cc :;.at I ency
participation in the NWC should be increased.
3. The Admiral pointed out that only the Armco. Forces and the
Department of State actually have a standing quota for attendance in
classes at the NWC. Other civilian agencies of the Goverrtaent, such
as CIA., USIA, NSA, Commerce, Treasury, etc., are invited each year on
an ad hoc basis, In the Class of ':1957, the civilian representation is
as follows:

4> By separate communication from the Executive Officer, NWC,
(YIR has been informed that Que Clearances will be required for each
member of the class beginning with the Class of 1957-58-
5, In view of the foregoing, it is recommended that:
a. at least five principal and three alternate candidates
be selected for the 1957-58 class at the National War College; and
