racks; early in the Spring, they leave their win-
ter-quarters, and are assigned, battalion by bat-
ta-lion, to the various capital investment works,
in the PLOVDIV area, such as the construction of
highways, of water dams, of the RUDOZEM row mate-
rials basis.
In these large barracks, the motorized Inf. teg.
was stationed after the war; the unit was after-
wards transferred to SOFIA; the barracks are still
occupied by the Army, but no detail can be obtai-
ned.

The largest military airfield in the vicini-
ty of PLOV1)IV is located in GRAF IGNATIEV,(at
about 20 km. north.). This air=field, dama-
ged very badly during the war, has been com-
pletely rebuilt, and is considered now -ac-
cording to the available informatioa# - as
one of the Rtrongemt BRai Igari on Air*Forco Bape.

"KICUL PARIZH", the southern suburb of the
town. The name of "KICUL PARIZH" (Small Paris
w derive) from the ironic description of this
suburb which, before the war, used to be the
poorest slum district of PIOVDIV. Inhabited
by worters,r. J y before the war , it was
the center of very radical leftist a meats.
During the war, it became the rl4 of the Com-
munist Underground Movement in southern Bulga-
ria. Communists felt very safe and protected
in this place so rich of hiding possibilities,
where evaa the Ger as GESTAPO was unable to
carry on their ?r-&* en. Today, under the (com-
munist Regime, this area i) changing into an
industrial district. In fact, most of the new
industrial enterprises of PIOVDIV are concen-

now modern plant, equipped with 30 000 spind-
