Ikebnik's Hportance lies in being the administrative center for the Igwarectwo weenowe (coal mine area).( Regarding industry, Rybnik has only two leather factories, two furniture faCtories, one brewery, two large distilleries, one large printing enterprise and several brickkilns in the suburban area. The largest plant Within the town itself is an enterprise for the production of machinery. In Pruszowice, located nearby, the 'Silesia' enamel works, one of the largest enterprises of this type in all of Poland, is located. After World War II, out of all these enterprises only 'Silesia' retained its former importance and the machinery plant was specialized for the manufacture of machinery for coal mines only. In addition, the administrative body for the coal mines kept its seat in Rybnik under the new name: 'Rybnickie EITILAILe Przemyslu Weglowegol. In 19531 it was among those on top of the list of high quota achievements. The coal miners' settlement is located in Pszaw. Here also a POR state-owned estate is established which supplies its produce to the coal mine canteens. This has three hoisting coal mine shafts (Leon, Ignacy, Karol) and one ventilation and supply shaft. The depth of the coal mine is around one thousand meters. n____ Type of mine: Warm and gassy. In both the llama' coal mine (shaft depth around one thousand n) and the cokeryp up to four thousand workers and coal miners are employed. The mine is near the Neniadom settit ment. Before World War I it was known as "Hoymgrubel. The depth of the mine is around eight hundred meters. PGR estate (state-owned) is operated. 8 'Debinsko' coal mine Outside It is situated northeast of Rybnik. reach of This coal mine has three shafts, the the plan largest throughout the Rybnik area. It employs at least four thousand coal miners including laborers at the cokery which is attached to the mine. Apart from these sand pits the Rybnik coal mine area will have, at its disposal another sand pit near Bojanow (German: Kriegsbach). The Bojanow sand pit is presently being developed. The sand will be transported for the time being by trucks from the Bojanow sand pit to the railway station in Krzanowice (German: Kranstedt) situated south from Raciborz.
