THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
1. Development work on the new ultracentrifuge being carried out by Experimental 25X1
Design Office No. 1 (KoV-1) of VEB Carl Zeiss, Jena, was being accelerated as
of September 1955 so as to be able to show this instrument at the Leipzig Spring
Fair of 1956. The metal parts of the centrifuge proper and the attached small
Schlieren device are now being given numerous applications of a rust-free lacquer.
2. The ultracentrifuge has speed of 50,000 revolutions per V"
minute, exercising a pow nd no further major difficulties 2LJ C~ C>
were experienced. The to another laboratory of the plant
to be tested for density, compactness5and vacuum tightness (Abdichtung). The t
laboratory which is to conduct these latter tests is headed by Hauenstein (fnu).
3. Present plans call for the Experimental Design Office No. 1 (KoV-1) to build
another ultracentrifuge instrument for endurance and performance tests. It is
planned to run this instrument at the same speed of 50,000 revolutions per minute,
or within a tolerance of ten percent plus or minus, until such time as the in-
strument begins to disintegrate.
